GLEN ULLIN, N.D. (KFGO) – The Highway Patrol says two people died in separate crashes in central North Dakota Friday afternoon.
About five miles south of Hannover in Oliver County, a 79-year-old man from Almont was killed when his SUV veered off Highway 31, hit a culvert, launched over the water, and landed on its driver’s side.
That man died at the scene. The Highway Patrol, Oliver County Sheriff’s Department, Oliver County Ambulance, and Oliver County Rural Fire Department responded to the crash.
North of Glen Ullin, the Highway Patrol says a 66-year-old Hebron woman was distracted by a phone call when her SUV veered off Morton County Road 88, went into the ditch, and struck a concrete bridge support. The woman wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and suffered serious injuries.
She was flown to Sanford Hospital in Bismarck by Sanford AirMed where she died.
An 11-year-old boy, 12-year-old boy, and 15-year-old girl who were with the woman were taken to the hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. The kids were all wearing seatbelts.
The Morton County Sheriff’s Department, Glen Ullin Fire and Ambulance, Hebron Ambulance assisted at that crash scene.
Both crashes are under investigation.
