HORACE, N.D. (KFGO) – A rural Horace family is recovering after being treated at a hospital for carbon monoxide exposure Christmas Eve morning.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says emergency crews responded to the home where people were feeling ill, with a juvenile slipping in and out of consciousness. First responders say both parents and two juveniles were showing symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide exposure and were taken to a hospital by Sanford Ambulance.
Southern Valley Fire and Rescue found extremely high levels of carbon monoxide near the home’s fireplace.
The Sheriff’s Office and Southern Valley Fire and Rescue are reminding people to make sure their home is properly cleaned and ventilated, especially around fireplaces and heating appliances. They also ask everyone to install and maintain working carbon monoxide detectors.
