HANKINSON, N.D. (KFGO) – St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Hankinson was heavily damaged by fire Monday.
Diocese of Fargo spokesman Paul Braun said the church’s west tower was “engulfed” in flames and was in a construction area. The church had recently undergone a large renovation project. The fire appears to have spread through the roof of the building to the south side. The call came in at about 4:30 p.m.
Braun said the fire was put out shortly after 8 p.m. He said drones were used to check for hot spots.
The interior has extensive fire, water, and smoke damage, and most of the ceiling collapsed. The damage inspection will continue on Tuesday morning.
Fire departments across Richland County responded to the fire, including the Wahpeton Fire Dept. ladder truck. No injuries have been reported.
