FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo voters approved a city sales tax for police and fire, and a lodging tax to help fund a convention center, but said ‘no’ to a sales tax that would have funded improvements to Fargodome.
The quarter-cent sales tax measure brought forward by firefighters local 642 passed overwhelmingly with 69% to 31% approval. It will help fund the police and fire departments for the next 20 years. The union says the money could be used to build a fire station, law enforcement training center, equipment or recruiting.
The 3% lodging tax on hotel rooms passed by about 52% to 48% and will be in effect for 25 years. Money generated from that tax will go toward building a convention center.
The measure to add a quarter-cent sales tax in Fargo to make improvements to Fargodome failed by a margin of 52% to 48%.
