MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO/WCCO) – The Minneapolis Police Department held a Blue Mass at the Basilica of St. Mary Wednesday to honor fallen comrades.
Prior to the ceremony, Minneapolis Police and other law enforcement agencies from across the state held a procession inside the church.
Archbishop Bernard Hebda welcomed all, and praised them for their service.
“This is the way that we as Catholics celebrate, give thanks to God for your wonderful witness, and certainly for the example of those who have given their lives in the service of our state and our country,” Hebda said during the service.
“What our men and women do is of utmost importance in our communities,” added Father Daniel Griffith. “It’s good that we’re here today, even amidst the loss of our brothers and sisters.”
The service ended with the tradition of “Amazing Grace” being played on the bagpipes. Attendees included Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.
