FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) — Fargo Memorial Honor Guard has been approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs to build the Veterans Memorial Center at Fargo National Cemetery.
The local nonprofit will then donate the center to the National Cemetery Administration.
Sen. John Hoeven helped advance this option saying it was used to save the project money and time and provide the best amenities to honor our veterans.
“A key component of this plan is utilizing a process wherein a local nonprofit is able to develop and transfer a Veterans Memorial Center, to the National Cemetery Administration,” said Hoeven.
The new center will include a gathering area, offices for VA staff, breakroom for honor guard members and indoor restrooms–an issue that set off a debate over the use of vault toilets at the cemetery.
“So this really puts wind in our sails to develop and build a beautiful facility at the Fargo VA Cemetery for our heroes,” said Hoeven.
The Veterans Memorial Center is expected to cost $3.7 million.
