MAPLETON, N.D. (KFGO) – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a collision involving a semi and a train at an uncontrolled railroad crossing near the intersection of 164th Ave. SE and Co Rd 10 just east of Mapleton.
The semi was southbound when it neared the railroad crossing. The driver of the semi proceeded through the crossing when the westbound BNSF freight train struck the trailer portion of the vehicle. There were no injuries and there was no train derailment. The sheriff’s office says The 27-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was issued a citation for failure to stop at a railroad crossing.
The sheriff’s office says railroad crossings, especially uncontrolled ones, present significant risks if proper precautions are not taken.
