ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KFGO) – KFGO has been recognized by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and State Patrol.
The station has been honored with the Toward Zero Deaths Media Award demonstrating excellence in raising public awareness about traffic safety for going beyond typical news stories and showing a commitment to reducing traffic fatalities and serious injuries in Minnesota.
“The station takes a multi-faceted approach to traffic safety. Their live programming, complete with road reports, construction updates, and safe driving reminders begin daily at 5 a.m. News & Views with Joel Heitkamp also features a monthly “Trooper Talk” segment with Minn. State Patrol Sgt. Jesse Grabow and North Dakota Highway Patrol representatives.”
“Partnering with West Central Minnesota TZD Coordinators, on-air host Amy Iler of “It Takes 2 with Amy and JJ” champion creative PSAs tackling topics such as safety during harvest time with local FFA representatives, holidays, and summer driving. These PSAs resonate with listeners, as evidenced by positive feedback from Sanford Trauma Services.”
KFGO News Director Paul Jurgens and journalists Ryan Janke and Don Haney accurately report on crashes and road conditions by monitoring and contacting official sources such as Sgt. Grabow.
“And finally, KFGO shares Sgt. Grabow’s informative “Ask a Trooper” articles weekly with followers on social media and their news website, kfgo.com, providing easily digestible and expert insights on traffic safety issues. In these ways, KFGO Radio goes beyond simply reporting the news, it actively works to create a culture of safe driving in its listening area.”
The award was presented in St. Cloud.
