WATERTOWN, S.D. (KFGO/KXLG) – A shoplifting suspect from Colorado had to be rescued off a roof by Watertown firefighters after he fled police Thursday. Police say the man had been driving a stolen car from Fargo.
Watertown Police Department responded just before 7 p.m. Thursday to multiple reports of shoplifting at Running’s and Tractor Supply. The suspects fled in a car that was confirmed stolen from Fargo.
A South Dakota Highway Patrolman spotted the car turning south onto I-29. The vehicle stopped, and the male driver fled on foot. Law enforcement searched for 90 minutes before locating the suspect in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Watertown. The man had climbed onto a building and was unable to climb down. Watertown Fire Rescue helped him off, and he was arrested.
36-year-old Kyle Covington, is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. He and his passenger, 46-year-old Tammy Dunfee, are also facing drug charges.
