SULAIMANIYA, Iraq (Reuters) – Kurds began voting in a parliamentary election in their semi-autonomous region in northern Iraq on Sunday, following repeated delays.
The vote is to elect 100 lawmakers and a president for Kurdish regions that gained self-rule in 1991.
With opposition parties weak, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan are likely to extend more than three decades of power-sharing.
Polls close at 6 p.m. (1500 GMT).
