MOORHEAD (KFGO/KVRR) – Moorhead Area Public Schools officials say a political brochure that appears to be endorsed by the school district is fraudulent and should be ignored.
The brochure recently appeared in Moorhead Public School area mailboxes. It endorses two people running for the school board and includes the words “prepared and paid for by the Moorhead Area Public Schools.”
The matter has been turned over to local and state law enforcement officials, MPS spokesperson Brenda Richman said.
“It has come to the attention of Moorhead Area Public Schools that a direct mail piece endorsing two candidates for the upcoming school board election was recently sent to members of the Moorhead community. This mailer falsely claims to be from the district,” according to a statement released by Superintendent Brandon Lunak.
“The district wants to make it clear that we had no involvement in the creation, approval or distribution of this mailer,” the statement said. “This is a deeply troubling situation, and we are currently exploring legal and law enforcement options to identify and hold accountable those responsible for this fraudulent activity.”
The district says as a neutral public entity, it does not endorse or support any candidate running for the school board.
