ST. PAUL—Whooping cough in Minnesota has hit an eight-year high. Department of Health Senior Epidemiologist Victor Cruz says the number is way up from the 61 cases last year.
He says there have been 1,019 cases in Minnesota as of the last count.
Cruz says they take every case seriously, and the pertussis cases are distributed across the state. The seven-county metro has been most heavily affected.
Data shows the vast number of whooping cough cases, about 37%, are in Hennepin County alone.
