FARGO (KFGO) – There was a shooting in downtown Fargo early this (Thurs.) morning. A man was wounded and taken to Sanford Hospital by ambulance. It happened at the corner of 3rd Avenue North and Broadway outside Sammy’s Pizza and Restaurant around 2:30 a.m.
Police say the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. The victim was transported by ambulance to Sanford Hospital with serious injuries. Investigators believe the victim and suspect knew each other and do not believe there is an active threat to the public.
A man who asked not to use his name and who was working at a business directly across the street on Broadway was outside in the entryway taking a break when he saw the shooting.
He told KFGO News he saw a white van across the street with someone in the passenger window seat talking. He then heard a gunshot and watched the van drive off. The worker ran over, took off his sweater, and used it to cover the victim’s chest wound. He called 911 but his phone wouldn’t go through so he ran back into the store and told another employee to call 911.
The employee then ran back to the shooting along the sidewalk to provide whatever help he could provide to the wounded victim until police and ambulance arrived.
Police are investigating the case and they have no further information to release at this time.
