ST. PAUL, Minn. – Preliminary numbers show an 8% decline in fatal drug overdoses in Minnesota in 2023.
“We had a leveling off last year and I am hopeful that even though the numbers may change slightly when everything is said and done, we should still be seeing a decrease,” Department of Health Epidemiologist Mary Delaquil said.
Outstate Minnesota experienced a 21% decrease in overdose deaths while the Twin Cities metro saw a 1% drop.
Delaquil said increased education, awareness, and access to resources could all be reasons for the decrease.
