MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO/WCCO) – Minneapolis police say three robberies within a two-hour period Tuesday in south Minneapolis led to the arrest of six juveniles between the ages of 11 and 14.
The spree began around 11:30 a.m. in the Minnehaha area, and continued to the Powderhorn and Lyndale neighborhoods.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara says they instituted their Crime Pattern Response Protocol, which floods the area with law enforcement after the reports.
A stolen vehicle suspected of being used during the robberies was spotted and crashed near I-94 and Cedar Avenue, while a second stolen car crashed nearby.
All the suspects ran, but were later apprehended.
Extremely young ages for some of these juvenile criminals is not new to Minneapolis police. O’Hara says the ages of the individuals involved is “incredibly frustrating.”
The arrests come less than a week after the arrest of a 10-year-old boy for probable cause of degree assault after allegedly driving a stolen vehicle through a crowded school playground on Sept. 20 in Minneapolis.
Many of the juveniles arrested in the crimes have had previous contact with Minneapolis police officers. O’Hara says it highlights the need for further action.
The juveniles that were arrested were booked in the Juvenile Detention Center.
