MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO) โ A Red Lake woman has been sentenced to 15-months in federal prison after being found guilty of felony neglect that led to the death of a child she cared for.
Court records say 64-year-old Sharon Rosebear was caring for the child throughout 2022 and deprived her of food and healthcare.
Prosecutors showed the girl died of a combination of starvation and a severe infection that medical professionals testified could have entered her body through scratches on her head from severe lice. Prosecutors say transportation to healthcare is free on the Red Lake Reservation and Rosebear was receiving nutritional and cash assistance, but still deprived the child of basic needs.
Rosebearโs co-defendant, Julius Fineday, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years in prison earlier this year.
