FORMAN, N.D. (KFGO) – A Havana, North Dakota man is sentenced after pleading guilty to taking a bartender hostage in Forman last fall.
Ryan Bergh, 48, was sentenced to 8 years in prison for kidnapping and reckless endangerment. He was given credit for almost a year in jail and could be released early on good behavior.
Last October, Bergh kidnapped Melissa Wolter at gunpoint and held her for hours. Eventually, Wolter and Bergh agreed that they should drive to the sheriff’s home.
Sargent County Sheriff Travis Paeper says Wolter got the handgun away from Bergh and rushed inside the house screaming while the sheriff was asleep.
Bergh was arrested in Paeper’s front yard.
