FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) – A federal trial for former West Fargo Independence Elementary Principal David George has been moved to February.
U.S. District Judge Peter Welte issued his ruling after the defense asked for more time to review evidence and prepare for trial.
The trial was set to begin next week, on October 8. It will now start February 25.
In his ruling Welte wrote, “There is good cause to continue the trial, and ‘the ends of justice served by taking such action outweigh the best interest of the public and the defendant in a speedy trial’.”
George is accused of taking a 10-year-old boy to South Dakota where he molested the child.
Prosecutors also plan to call a woman who is expected to testify that George sexually abused her beginning when she was around 8-years-old.
George was arrested in August 2023 and is being held at the Sherborn County Jail in Minnesota. He was moved in May.
George was originally charged in North Dakota for possession of child pornography. His case was moved to federal court after the investigation revealed he travelled across state lines with intent to have sexual relations with a minor.
George was with West Fargo Public School District for nearly 10 years, resigning the day he was arrested. He had also been an assistant principal at Cheney Middle School.
