MINNEAPOLIS – Two Nigerian nationals have been indicted in a business email compromise scheme targeting Minnesota-based healthcare companies.
The US Attorney’s Office says they deceived healthcare employees into making payments to bank accounts controlled by the men and their co-conspirators instead of the intended beneficiaries.
They created a fake internet domain designed to appear it was controlled by Fairview Health and fake email accounts belonging to Fairview executives. In total, prosecutors say they stole over $13 million in payments.
They have not been arrested and are considered fugitives.
