GRAND FORKS (KFGO) – A Grand Forks man is facing charges after assaulting both his current wife and ex-wife early Monday.
Police responded to a home just before 2 a.m. Monday for a report of a domestic assault. Court documents say when officers arrived, a woman outside told them she’d been hit in the head by her ex-husband.
She told officers that she’d been inside the home when 31-year-old Daniel Morales assaulted his current wife. Documents say Morales hit his wife in the face multiple times, causing her to fade in and out of consciousness.
The ex-wife told officers she tried to block Morales’ attacks, but was hit in the head. Morales locked his ex in a room, but she was able to escape.
Five kids were in the home during the incident. They told police they heard fighting, and Morales would not let them leave the home.
Morales is facing felony charges of interfering with a 911 call and felonious restraint. He is also charged with domestic violence.
Morales has a lengthy criminal history, including a 2016 case where he pleaded guilty to selling cocaine in Polk County. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison. In 2011, he was convicted of felony theft over $35,000. He also has a list of miscellaneous citations, ranging from fishing without a license to DWI.
