MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO) – A teenage girl was killed and five others were injured when a hit-and-run driver plowed into a crowd in downtown Minneapolis early Saturday morning.
Minneapolis Police Department says the horrific incident happened at Hennepin Avenue and 5th Street North at 12:23 a.m., and followed an “altercation” between a group of people at the intersection, which is near the Warehouse District light rail station.
One of those involved, a woman, proceeded to get into a vehicle, reversed along Hennepin Avenue, and then “drove the wrong way on 5th St. N. into the crowd.”
Six people were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, with a 16-year-old girl later dying from her injuries. Another injured party is in a life-threatening condition, and four others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect fled the scene but was followed by witnesses, with police catching her on the 2300 block of Bryant Avenue North. She has been booked into Hennepin County Jail for murder.
“MPD is investigating to determine the sequence of events that led up to the incident,” a police statement says.
