Essentia Health Fosston
FOSSTON, Minn. (KFGO) โ An arbitration panel has ruled in favor of Essentia Health in a dispute with the city of Fosston.
Essentia has run the hospital for the past 15 years. The city sought to end its agreement with the healthcare provider after it decided to close labor and delivery services in 2022, forcing people to drive to Grand Forks or other hospitals. Essentia says the decision will allow it to continue to operate the hospital, clinic, assisted-living and long-term care facilities in Fosston along with clinics in Bagley and Oklee.
In a statement, Essentia says the neutral panel of arbitrators has shared its decision, affirming our position that we have operated the Fosston hospital within the requirements of the affiliation agreement we signed with the City in 2009. The arbitration hearing occurred in the middle of July.
โNow that the arbitration process is over, Essentia is focused on the opportunity to engage our patients, colleagues and the community in building a shared vision for the future of health care in Fosston,โ said Dr. Stefanie Gefroh, interim president of Essentia Healthโs West Market. โWe look forward to working with city leaders in support of that objective and for the patients weโre honored to serve.โ
