KANSAS CITY, M.O. (KFGO/AP) – Kansas City Chiefs superfan sentenced for string of bank robberies across seven states, including two attempts at Minnesota credit unions.
A federal judge has sentenced the superfan known as “ChiefsAholic” to more than 17 in prison for a string of 11 bank robberies across seven states. He has admitted to stealing nearly $850,000 to finance his social media stardom.
Xavier Babudar, 30, learned his fate Thursday on the same day his beloved Chiefs were gearing up for their season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. Babudar developed a following online on his @ChiefsAholic account on the social platform X after attending games dressed as a wolf in Chiefs gear. His rabid support of the Chiefs became well known on social media, though he’s nowhere near the team’s most famous fan since Taylor Swift began dating tight end Travis Kelce.
Babudar admitted that he attempted to rob Wings Financial Credit Union in Savage, Minnesota, on Nov. 29, 2022. Babudar entered this credit union with what appeared to be a firearm and demanded that credit union employees open the vault. Babudar fled from the credit union, however, after seeing the vault only held small bills.
He also admitted attempting to rob the Royal Credit Union in Apple Valley, on the same day. Babudar entered the credit union with what appeared to be a firearm and demanded that credit union employees open the vault. When he saw the vault only contained small bills, Babudar demanded $100 bills. Credit union employees told him they didn’t keep $100 bills in the vault, and Babudar fled on foot.
