FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – The Fargo Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in a three-story apartment building in north Fargo just after 9 on Wednesday morning.
The initial report was that an electric bike (e-bike) battery was on fire in an apartment and the fire was spreading to other parts of the unit. Firefighters observed heavy smoke coming from the first floor unit and were able to quickly extinguish the fire, keeping the damage confined to the one apartment.
No one was injured in the fire. The residents were able to evacuate before firefighters arrived. Residents have been temporarily displaced from the unit. The apartment sustained significant smoke damage. The cost of the damage is estimated at $10,000. The cause of the fire was determined to be a damaged e-bike battery that was on a charger.
The Fargo Fire Department reminds residents that anytime a lithium battery appears to be damaged, the safest course of action is to properly dispose of the battery and replace it with a new battery.
