Nita Velo, Pelican Rapids Native, Performs at Maplewood State Park
Award-winning singer-songwriter Nita Velo will perform at Maplewood State Park on
September 14 at 3 p.m.
Nita’s music has been described as “folk and jazz with a twist of blues.” A Pelican
Rapids native, Nita learned to play the guitar at the age of 8 using a butter knife as a
slide in open tuning. She has performed live in local bands and as a solo artist since
her teens.
Nita has won numerous awards for her songwriting, including the Song of the Year from
the International We Are Listening Music Awards for “Shadow of a Child.” In addition to
her solo compositions, she has co-written with a number of published Nashville-based
songwriters in the Country, Contemporary Christian, and Americana genres over the
years and continues to write to this day.
Nita is known for her positive, uplifting performances of original songs mixed with folk
and Americana covers. Her performance at Maplewood will be in the Josh Hanson
Memorial Shelter on September 14th at 3 p.m.
This will be our last music event of the summer! Remember to bring a lawn chair!
