VALLEY CITY, N.D. (KFGO) – Valley City Police were able to stop a scammer from receiving thousands of dollars from a Valley City resident.
The resident contacted police Tuesday to report they were a scam victim. Police say the victim called a number that appeared on a pop-up on their computer. The victim thought they were receiving help, but were convinced by a high-pressure scammer to send $34,000 to a California address.
Officers learned the package with the money was still being shipped, and were able to stop the delivery.
The victim’s money was returned Thursday. Valley City Police say it’s rare when a money transfer to a scammer can be intercepted before it’s delivered.
Anyone who is a victim or potential victim of a scam is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
