FARGO (KFGO) – At a special meeting this morning, the Fargo City Commission reconsidered their approval of the Mayor’s Preliminary Budget last week.
The Preliminary Budget is an 11% increase over last year. Last week, it was approved with more funding to the city’s budget and reduced funding to the airport.
Commissioner Michelle Turnberg requested the meeting.
After some heated discussion, the commission voted for an option that will keep funding the same, but give more funding to the airport and reduce funding from the city in the preliminary budget.
Mayor Tim Mahoney says, in order to balance the budget, city employees’ cost of living increase will not be as large as previously proposed.
Commissioner Dave Piepkorn says there are plenty of places to cut without taking from the cost of living increase. Commissioner John Strand says he feels the city needs to tighten its belt.
The final budget will need to be approved by Oct 7.
