OTTERTAIL, Minn. (KFGO) – The Otter Tail Sheriff’s Office reports a drowning on the Northwest side of Otter Tail Lake when a 63-year-old man fell from the pontoon into the water.
David Kantrud of Fergus Falls, M.N. was on a pontoon with family around 2:30 in the afternoon when the man fell in an attempt to retrieve an item from the lake. Occupants from a nearby pontoon assisted in recovering Kantrud. Within minutes the Otter Tail County water patrol arrived and assisted with an AED and CPR until they arrived on shore.
Resuscitation efforts were ultimately unsuccessful and Kantrud was pronounced dead on the scene. A life jacket was not in use at the time of the incident.
