Joe Biden did what America needed him to do. As a true patriot, he withdrew from the Presidential race after already having the Democratic nomination assured. In other words, it was his race to win or lose. It’s just fairly easy to conclude that it was the latter after his debate performance.
It was after Donald Trump’s performance at the Republican National Convention, that as a Democrat, I started to have hope again. His speech was so incoherent that he showed just how weak he can be. Add that to a new generation of democratic leaders, and you have a recipe for victory. Trump just couldn’t help himself. He’s an a-hole that had to prove he hasn’t changed.
Imagine a scenario where Trump used the opportunity accepting the nomination to address the nation as a statesman, where he stood before the nation as a victim of attempted assassination, with a message of civility. The kind of civility that not only calls for a difference in public debate, but shows one. Instead, he went back to what he knows best and attacked people and made supporters believe his lies.
The problem Trump has now is that he’ll be going up against someone that will call him on it. Kamala Harris is a true hard-ass. She won’t play the “women should be seen and not heard” role that Trump is used to. She will call him out for what he is: a convicted felon and lying rapist. As a former prosecutor, she knows what question to ask and when to ask it. Questions that will call Trump out for what he is.
Kamala Harris wouldn’t have been my first choice. But in the span of 48 hours, she’s raised over $200 million, making it the largest fundraising haul of any candidate ever over that time period. While the dollar amount is significant, it’s the amount of donors that matters most. Harris has the core Democrats and their targeted voters excited. Blacks, women, and our next generation are all engaged again.
All because Trump won the debate.
Or did he?
