
PIERRE, S.D. (KFGO) – A former South Dakota Social Services employee has been charged with grand theft for allegedly stealing nearly $1.8 million from the state’s Child Protective Services.
Lonna Carroll of Algona, Iowa was arrested Wednesday and is set to be extradited to South Dakota.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says Carroll, 68, is accused of stealing the money between 2010 and 2023 while she was an employee of the department and had control of the state and federal funds.
Carroll faces a total of 40 years in prison.
