FARGO (KFGO) – The family of the Fargo man who nearly drowned in Little Detroit Lake is asking for help as he recovers.
24-year-old Sterling Buchholz was swimming on the beach in Detroit Lakes the afternoon of July 6th, and didn’t resurface. Buchholz’s uncle says dozens of people quickly formed a human chain and found him without a heartbeat. He was rushed to the hospital, and is still in the ICU.
Buchholz’s condition has dropped from critical to stable, and he’s able to breathe on his own. All his organs have been compromised, and he has a long healing process ahead, but could fully recover after extensive therapy.
“The family would like to thank the many dozens of concerned citizens reacting quickly, jumping in the water forming a human chain and finding Sterling; as well as Becker County Sheriff’s Office, St. Mary’s EMT, and Essentia Hospital for saving Sterling’s life,” Rick Buchholz, Sterling’s uncle, said. “We are also very grateful for all the prayer groups that have supported Sterling, family and friends.”
Buchholz and his mother will be out of work for some time, as she’s taking time off work to be with her son.
