FARGO (KFGO) – Court documents are revealing details from a Fargo shooting that left one man dead.
Fargo Police were called to the Arbors apartment complex in the 2200 block of 6th Ave S around 10:15 p.m. on June 24. Officers found Zion Brooks, 20, with a serious wound to his face in the parking lot. Court documents say Brooks’ wound indicated that he had been shot at close range.
Brooks’ girlfriend told officers she thought Amire Logan, 20, shot her boyfriend because he was the only person who “had beef” with Brooks.
Two witnesses said Brooks walked out of the courtyard near the apartments towards Logan. They told police Brooks had a gun and approached Logan, yelling at him. Both witnesses heard a gunshot, but didn’t see Logan shoot Brooks.
A 9mm pistol was found under Brooks. A .45-caliber casing was found nearby.
Officers discovered that a silver SUV, later identified as a Hyundai Sonata, and an orange Jeep both left the parking lot quickly after the shooting. Investigations found Logan was the owner of the Hyundai, and the Jeep was occupied by witnesses. Investigators were able to contact those witnesses.
Detectives learned Logan called his mother about an hour after the shooting and said, “A guy put a gun in my face. I did what I had to do, mom. I shot him back. I am so sorry. I am so sorry. I love you.” He then hung up.
Investigators spoke with Logan’s family the day after the shooting. They hadn’t heard from Logan, but turned over a rifle they said was Logan’s. The rifle is a ghost gun, meaning it is not registered and has no serial number.
Fargo Police and the High Plains Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Logan on June 26, two days after the shooting. He was arrested for murder.
Today, the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office said it reviewed all available evidence, and charged Logan with two counts of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Logan was convicted in February 2023 in Clay County for carrying a pistol without a permit, a felony.
Logan’s first court appearance is set for tomorrow.
