MINNEAPOLIS – Fans from across the country and internationally are coming to Minneapolis this weekend to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Prince’s film “Purple Rain.” The Purple Rain album and film were officially released on June 25 and July 27, 1984. respectively.
A big party at First Avenue takes place Friday night and Saturday is the big block party where fans can dance and there will be music by the Revolution and other musicians.
The film had no known stars, no real actors, and was made on a low budget. When the movie hit theaters, it turned into the number-one film in the U.S., and the single, “When Doves Cry” hit number one. It was also the first artist in American history to have a number-one film, a number-one album, and a number-one song at the same time.
