FARGO – (KFGO) – On a 4-to-1 vote, Fargo City Commissioners approved sending 15 police officers to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a week to assist with security for the 2024 Republican National Convention. Last June, the Fargo Police Department received a request from the City of Milwaukee to help with the national security event.
Police Chief Dave Zibolski says the State of Wisconsin reimburses all the officer’s costs, personnel, overtime, and benefits. He says Fargo police are not only assisting an agency and a state that assisted North Dakota and Fargo during the DAPL protests. He says the value, the experience, and the knowledge that the police department and the city will receive will be “invaluable.”
Commissioner Denise Kolpack says she’s “struggled” with this issue. She says she understands the “expertise” that the police will receive but also sees it as an unnecessary risk when Fargo needs additional officers.
Chief Zibolski says arrangements have been made so there won’t be any staffing problems while the officers are in Milwaukee.
