HOPKINS, Minn. (KFGO) – A four-year-old Hopkins, Minnesota boy reported missing Sunday morning has been found dead in a creek near his family’s apartment.
Police say a person helping with the search found the body of Waeys Mohamed in Minnehaha Creek.
His death is believed to be accidental. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Offices will work to determine the boy’s cause of death.
As the search got underway, police described Mohamed as autistic and nonverbal, and said he was drawn to water and startled by loud noises.
Search teams, dogs and boats were part of the search operation, according to police. Community members aided in the early search efforts, and an organized volunteer search began Monday.
