Jill Renee Halvorson, age 75 has entered eternal rest on May 17th, 2024, surrounded by family with a beautiful smile on her face, doing what she loved, watching “Judge Judy”.
Jill Renee (Monroe) Halvorson was born in 1949 to the proud parents Evaleth “Eva” (Thun) and George Monroe. Jill was very proud of her small-town roots of Warren, Strandquist, and Radium, MN. Born on a small farm, Jill was the youngest of three children, part of a true American success story. Kay (Monroe) Hanson, Milo Monroe, and Jill all attended elementary school in a one room schoolhouse in Radium, MN (where Jill had the opportunity to become efficient in her abilities to skillfully utilize a Crayola Crayon). In 5th grade, Jill had the good fortune to attend Warren High School. She had a love for music, singing, and performing. She was always putting on a show. While part of 4H, walking in the Warren parades, Jill dressed as Mother Goose and walked a live goose down the road. She won several blue ribbons with her submissions to the “Make it With Wool” competitions and was the Style Review Queen of 4H in 1966. While performing in High School musicals, such as “South Pacific”, Jill met, kept, and treasured many enduring lifelong friends.
Following high school graduation in 1967, Jill’s passion and knack for the arts didn’t end in Warren, MN, but continued onto the “Big City” of Fargo, ND when she attended and was a proud Bison at NDSU. Jill is a lifetime member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and was dedicated to theatre, playing an active role in Blue Key Productions. Jill participated in many theatre productions including “Carousel” and “Sweet Charity”, giving her the opportunity to meet Eugene Breker, whom she married in 1969 and had their only child Shelby Renee Breker.
Jill began her 28-year teaching career at Minnesota State Community and Technical College-Moorhead where she taught Sales, Marketing, Fashion, and Merchandising. In Oct 1979, Jill married the love of the rest of her life, Myron Halvorson, whom she was happily married to for 44 years. Myron brought one daughter into this marriage, Stacy (Halvorson) Flannery, and he and Jill had two children together, Adrie (Halvorson) Trzpuc and Leah (Halvorson) Krupich. They proudly interlaced this family, uniting and nourishing it to be inseparable.
When Jill wasn’t occupied with developing the lives of thousands of students, Jill had an inconceivable talent for sewing, crafting, singing, making others laugh, shopping, and loving her grandchildren. Jill was very adventurous and enjoyed taking risks and spending Myron’s money (so we joked) post-retirement. She never hesitated to plan a girl’s weekend to Minneapolis, Iowa (to see her daughter), Florida (to see her sister and nieces), Arizona (to see her brother and Sister-in-law), or just to the local jewelry store (aka. Pawn Shop) where they knew Jill by name! Jill loved cruising and so did Myron. They have been on well over 26 cruises in the past 16 years with the most recent one in February with 2 of their daughters. Jill and Myron loved spending time together and shared many common interests. Whether it was a family trip to Edmonton, AB, CA (996 miles) in a motorhome or traveling coast to coast stopping at every thrift store looking for cowboy boots and wool sweaters for the newest crafting project for Jill’s business Another Chance Crafts, they were (and are) inseparable.
Ensuring that Jill’s legacy that every sentence turned into a show tune, is Jill’s loving, devoted husband Myron Lee Halvorson, sister Kay (David) Hanson, sister-in-law Lois Monroe, children: Leah Renee (Brendan) Krupich, Adrie Renee (Wade) Trzpuc, Shelby Renee Breker (Melissa Simon), Stacy Lee (CJ) Flanery, grandchildren: Brenleigh Renee and Gavin Lee Krupich, Georgia Renee and Austin Lee Trzpuc, Kelsey (Max) Baumgartner, Shannon Flanery, countless nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and former students.
Jill will be greeted warmly by her mom and dad (Eva and George Monroe), brother (Milo Monroe), niece/goddaughter (Jami Hanson). Rest assured that Jill will carry out her mission letting everyone know “You Are Special”-Mr. Rogers.
Jill waged an honorable war against PSP (Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy) for 47 months, 17 days. PSP is a rare neurodegenerative disorder that has no cause or cure. To learn more about PSP or how to bring awareness, please visit CurePSP.org.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in memory of Jill to CurePSP.org or Hospice.
