DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (KFGO/KDLR) – A former deputy with the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office is facing criminal charges.
Benjamin Myrum, 37 of Devils Lake, was put on leave in February and resigned from the department in March.
Myrum is now charged with felony theft by a public servant and a misdemeanor count of misapplication of entrusted property.
Authorities allege that over the course of several months in 2023 Myrum took possession of cash payments totaling at least $350 from an individual enrolled in the 24/7 monitoring program administered by the sheriff’s office. They say Myrum failed to deposit that money with the Ramsey County Treasurer’s Office as required.
After being questioned about the money in February of this year, Myrum then deposited $300 cash with the treasurer’s office.
Authorities further allege Myrum admitted to taking the money. Myrum’s court appearance on the charges has not yet been scheduled.
Myrum was with the department for 16 years.
