
GWINNER, N.D. (KFGO) โ Gwinner Fire responded to a fatal house fire Sunday morning.
Sargent County Sheriff Travis Paeper says a woman placed a 911 call just after 4 a.m. from the homeโs second story, reporting smoke billowing inside. She was on the line with dispatch, but they lost contact. The Sheriffโs Office and first responders had arrived on the scene. Gwinner Fire requested aid, with Lisbon and Milnorโs Fire and Ambulance responding.
Fire crews were able to locate and remove the woman. She was transported to Lisbon Hospital, where she died. Paeper said there was a man inside the home on the first floor who was able to escape, along with two dogs. One dog perished in the fire.
Preliminary reports show the fire appears to have started in the basement. The body was transported to Grand Forks for the UND Pathology Department to conduct an autopsy. The investigation is active with the State Fire Marshal. Authorities have not released names pending notification of the family.
