FARGO (KFGO) – Merrill Piepkorn made his campaign for North Dakota governor official Tuesday in Fargo.
The Democrat has been a state senator since 2017, and represents District 44 in north Fargo.
Piepkorn says he’s ready for the job, and says people are tired of a governor who divides us into “us and them.”
“I just hope they keep bickering all the way through the primary, because people will remember in November,” Piepkorn says of his opponents in the governor’s race. “I am taking the high road. I guess I’m an optimist, and I believe we can do better. I will defend myself, if needed, but I will not go down that road, and I think people will understand that.”
Piepkorn’s announcement comes several days before the Democratic-NPL state convention.
Democrat Travis Hipsher dropped out of the governor’s race over the weekend.
Republicans Kelly Armstrong and Tammy Miller, as well as Independent Michael Coachman are also running for governor.
