MORRIS, Minn. – A young goat in Stevens County, Minnesota has tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza.
The goat was living on a farm where a positive poultry flock was previously found. The poultry on the property had been quarantined since February when avian influenza was detected.
Following the confirmation, the Board of Animal Health has quarantined all animals on the property.
The discovery highlights the possibility of the virus infecting other animals on farms with multiple species, even during spring migration which is known to be a higher-risk transmission period for poultry.
