BELTRAMI COUNTY, Minn. – A Grygla, Minnesota man is facing criminal charges after a high-speed pursuit and a crash involving a police squad car.
The incident started early Saturday in Blackduck when a local police officer and a Beltrami County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop the driver for a traffic violation.
Instead of stopping, the vehicle accelerated at a “high rate of speed,” eventually reaching 100 mph on southbound Highway 71. Bemidji police and the Minnesota State Patrol joined the pursuit when the suspect “intentionally attempted to hit one of the squad cars.”
The officer was able to avoid a head-on collision, but the squad car was struck on the rear driver’s side.
The suspect resisted arrest but was subdued when officers “sprayed” him.
Jason Moe, 52, was taken into custody after being “medically cleared” at an area hospital. He’s facing charges of fleeing police in a motor vehicle, use of deadly force on a peace officer, second-degree driving while impaired, and obstruction with force.
