ST. MICHAEL, Minn. – Authorities have identified the man shot and killed by a Wright County sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop in St. Michael northwest of the Twin Cities.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office says 67-year-old Jeffrey Chapman of Albertville died at the scene early last Saturday.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension’s report shows Deputy Austin Feenstra fired his department handgun, striking Chapman multiple times.
Investigators say Chapman got out of his vehicle and went after the deputy, at one point pulling a nine-inch pipe from his waistband before Feenstra shot him.
A squad car camera captured parts of the incident. There is no body cam video.
The deputy was placed on administrative leave while the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigates the incident.
