FARGO (KVRR/KFGO) – An investigation is underway by Grand Forks Public Schools into a physical altercation that happened at a basketball game between Red River High School and Shanley High School. The game was on Friday and a Red River player can be seen punching a Shanley player in the head at the end of the game.
“The district is investigating this matter,” wrote Grand Forks Public Schools. “No additional comment at this time.”
The North Dakota High School Activities Association said they are aware of the incident.
“The NDHSAA is aware of the incident during the Grand Forks Red River at Fargo Shanley boys basketball game on Friday, February 16, 2024, and is working with the administration at Grand Forks Red River High School as they address the situation. The NDHSAA cannot comment further due to student confidentiality laws.” wrote the NDHSAA in a statement.
In the video, a Red River High senior can be seen punching a Shanley sophomore who didn’t retaliate after the hit.
“Shanley respects the process and trusts that Grand Forks Public and the NDHSAA are handling this appropriately.” wrote Reggie Jackson, the activities director with Shanley.
Many on social media are calling for the suspension of the Red River player.
