GRAND FORKS, N.D. (UND Athletics)– The North Dakota women’s basketball team fell on Senior Day, 102-57, to Oral Roberts Saturday in the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
The Fighting Hawks struggled with the Oral Roberts full court pressure to begin the game, turning the ball over on their first three possessions as ORU took an early 7-2 lead. After a UND timeout, the Hawks began to settle in and would eventually tie the game at 12-12 with 3:48 left in the first. The Golden Eagles closed the period on an 8-1 run and would carry their momentum into the second quarter where they scored 14 points to grab a 35-13 lead.
UND would score nine points in the final four a half minutes of the second quarter, but ORU would match with 10 of its own to bring a 45-22 advantage into the halftime break. Sammiyah Hoskin paced UND in the first half with eight points and two rebounds, while Kacie Borowicz and Kiyah Hurst had four each. Oral Roberts turned the Hawks over 18 times in the opening 20, which turned into 22 points off turnovers.
Oral Roberts extended its lead to as many as 40 in the third quarter on 14-of-24 shooting with four three-pointers. The Hawks connected on 10-of-13 attempts from the free throw line in the frame but struggled from the field with three field goals and trailed 78-38 heading into the fourth quarter. The Hawks best scoring quarter was in the fourth with 19 points, led by Hurst’s nine and Jayla Owen’s five. ORU’s offensive output continued, however, as they cruised to its 102-57 win.
Hurst totaled a team-high 15 points with five rebounds and was followed by Hoskin and Kiera Pemberton who each had 10. Pemberton notched her second double-double of the season with 11 boards.
The Fighting Hawks will have a week off before traveling to Fargo for a rematch with North Dakota State on Saturday.
