Minnesota reaches settlement with Juul (Gov. Walz announces lawsuit against vaping giant Juul, archive photo)
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO/WCCO) โ Last May, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced a $60.5 million settlement with JUUL Labs for deceptively marketing e-cigarettes.
Now, the Minnesota Health Department is asking for public input on how to use that money.
โThe purpose of these input sessions is to really get into the community and to find out what solutions the community members want to see,โ the Health Departmentโs Parker Smith said. โThere is no one size fits all. So, itโs important for us to hear from them, meet them where theyโre at and then tailor this prevention and cessation work that weโre doing to best meet their needs.โ
A portion of the money will go towards reimbursing legal costs Smith said.
โWeโve worked with communities in the past to gather input on various strategies and commercial tobacco prevention and control initiatives,โ Smith said. โBut with this funding thatโs coming in, itโs an opportunity to do some new things, some innovative things.โ
The next input session will be Wednesday at Great River Regional Library in St. Cloud from 2:00-3:30 p.m.
People unable to attend input sessions can learn more and fill out a survey here.
