On Thursday, February 1, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will travel to Minnesota, where he will participate in a series of events highlighting the Biden-Harris Administration’s call for full funding for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), and how the Administration is advancing access to affordable and reliable clean energy in rural America.
In the morning, Secretary Vilsack will visit a WIC clinic in Saint Paul to highlight the urgent need for Congress to fully fund WIC in 2024 to avoid risking nutrition security for nearly 6.7 million pregnant women, new mothers, babies, and young children. Congress has not provided the full funding for this program and the current funding levels will not cover all eligible participants and those seeking to join the program for the full year.
Later, Secretary Vilsack will travel to Saint Charles, where he will join Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. There, they will highlight how the Biden-Harris Administration, under programs like USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), is advancing affordable and reliable clean energy in rural America thanks in part to President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act.
