MOORHEAD (KFGO) – The Moorhead Police Department is investigating an incident in which a dog was left at the south Moorhead fire station with life-threatening injuries Sunday.
Officers were called to the fire station after the dog was found abandoned in a kennel with head trauma. According to the department, the dog was lethargic and in significant distress.
The dog was taken to the pound and veterinary staff were called. Due to the extent of the injuries, the veterinary staff determined euthanizing the dog was the most humane option.
“The situation is extremely sad and unfortunately the best for this pup overall was euthanasia,” Cpt. Deric Swenson said. “We appreciated the quick response of the pound’s veterinary staff in their ability to complete an assessment and provide a care plan. We are obviously interested in knowing about what had led up to this situation and asking the public’s assistance to help fill in the unknowns. The area where the pup was left does not have surveillance equipment, so our community help is very important if we are to learn more about this incident.”
Anyone with information should contact Red River Regional Dispatch at 701-451-7660 and ask to speak with the on-duty Moorhead Police supervisor.
