CLOQUET, Minn. – Warrants reveal new clues in the shooting of a hotel worker and a guest at Super 8 in Cloquet west of Duluth earlier this month.
Nicholas Lenius, 32, sent a social media message to his work supervisor using a rude phrase and then, “what’s is going on” shortly before the shooting. The man then called Lenius and spoke with him at around the same time the shooting was reported to police by another hotel employee.
Lenius had a camera inside his pickup that was “actively recording,” according to a warrant. Lenius shot a woman who was working at the hotel, left the building, and shot Patrick Roers before shooting and killing himself.
Police have not determined a motive for the shootings.
