District 4 – Walker area

CO Mark Mathy (Cass Lake) continued working on a background check of a CO applicant. Ice angling activity is picking up and some good catches of walleyes were seen. Poor ice conditions are still around in many locations, however. Mathy investigated a complaint of dogs chasing deer. Enforcement action was taken for angling and ATV violations.

CO Patrick McGowan (Walker) patrolled Cass County lakes for angling activity. McGowan also attending Division trainings at Camp Ripley and performed equipment maintenance. McGowan reminds anglers that despite colder weather, lakes still have unpredictable ice and open water in spots.

CO Jacque Johnson (Longville) responded to a call of an injured eagle. She also investigated a trespass complaint and taking small game out of season.

CO Corey Sura (Remer) worked ice angling activity on Lake Winnibigoshish and other area lakes. Enforcement action was taken for violations including fishing without a license, leaving lines unattended, and taking illegal-length northern pike.

CO Landyn Saewert (Wadena) spent time on trapping and fishing enforcement. Ice thicknesses vary widely. Follow up on a trespassing case was completed. A subject was issued a citation for possessing big game without a license/permit. Enforcement action was taken for various fishing violations.

CO Michael Cross (Lake George) worked ice angling and trapping and conducted equipment maintenance. Cross checked anglers on the opener of the inland winter trout season and saw good success. Cross reminds anglers that inland trout fishing has different regulations than typical angling regulations and Minnesota angling regulations should be referenced before going out.
