BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) – North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum has declared a statewide emergency in response to the ice storm that brought down power lines that at one point left more than 20,000 homes and businesses without electricity
The governor’s office says Burgum plans to seek a presidential disaster declaration that would mean federal reimbursement to help cover the costs to townships, city and county governments, utility companies and electric cooperatives.
The most recent estimate Friday morning indicated that more than 4,000 customers remained without power.
Burgum’s statewide emergency declaration directs state government agencies to lend help, if needed, to local and tribal governments.
